Barmhartigheid Stockman coverNEWS 2016 - On the occasion of the Holy Year of Mercy, Bro. René Stockman, Superior General of the Congregation Brothers of Charity, wrote a book , entitled ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice’.  Bro. Stockman looks for answers to questions such as ‘What is mercy ?’, ‘What does it mean today ?’, and ‘How can we live and experience it ?’.  The 14 works of mercy are discussed, as well as a few icons of mercy. This inspiring book is published by the Belgian Catholic Publisher Halewijn and for the moment only in Dutch available.

The French translation of ‘Pandora’s Box’ has recently been published. In it, Brother René Stockman, Superior General of the Brothers of Charity, makes several arguments from a Christian view of man and society why he and many Christians with him cannot accept euthanasia.
He rightly calls it Pandora’s Box, which has been opened and which is being opened further still. Boundaries are pushed further and further, and now, it is even in Belgium legally possible for minors to request euthanasia. What group will be next: people with disabilities, elderly people with dementia?  This is not a book filled with sentiments but instead with facts and arguments.
